Expanding the LED market
The market for high-brightness LEDs is now expanding beyond basic applications.
As the luminous efficiency of LEDs has improved, the number of applications where they can be used has continued to grow, leading to today's mass adoption.
Here are three typical applications,
1. automobile
Turn signals in interior lighting applications, such as backlighting instrument panels (e.g., speedometers) and air conditioning switches,
Extended to external applications such as DRLs, headlights, etc.
2. liquid crystal display
From small LCD backlights for backlit cell phones and digital cameras to notebook PCs and tablets,
And eventually, it expanded to large-screen TVs.
3. lighting
From palm-sized flashlights and backlit signage to fluorescent light replacements and ultra-high-powered lights used in stadiums.
While applications can vary greatly, the common thread is that you can benefit from higher luminous efficacy, smaller light-emitting area, instant response time, lighter weight, and more features by choosing LED technology over traditional technologies applied to incandescent or fluorescent lamps.
Cell phones with internet and camera capabilities became a reality around 2000, followed shortly thereafter by smartphones. These innovative devices would not have been possible without the invention of blue and white LEDs. Today, 30 years after the introduction of the blue LED, the use of LEDs continues to evolve and develop beyond simple lighting. We can look forward to endless possibilities in the future.
